I am starting a new Mud truck build so i am gonna post pictures and info as it happens. I dont expect this mudder to be done for at least a year but i am hoping for next spring.
i will be asking questions and looking for input on this build so any help will be nice.

my mudder body is a rust free almost prefect 87 Firebird Formula
I traded a snowmobile for it
it is all striped out and up on a stand i built so i can work under it

V-gen 454 full roller motor ran when pulled at 100K gonna get rebuilt and upgraded in the future(when money allows)

it is 16'3" long so far and 36" wide all open ends are capped and sealed off
if you are wondering this 4x3" steel weighs 8lbs a foot so its gonnna be heavy when done

ox_man
05-16-2009, 10:55 AM
you will havae to build a bar like Soylent_Green did for moving his 2.5 tons around with

twistedpleasure777
05-17-2009, 08:17 AM

twistedpleasure777
06-06-2009, 08:04 PM
i think i am gonna run the military tires that came with it to start with after a little time with a grooving iron they are 47 inches tall and ill probably run the rear axle with duals to see what it will do

MuddersMom

Should be awesome!

It would have worked great, except I forgot that the diff was welded, and the damn thing was impossible to turn on dirt or grass. ended up just draging it into place with my ranger.

Still worked for keeping the diff upright while moving it around.

this project looks awesome, not too many people get to say they have a firebird on 5-ton axles, I will be keeping an eye on this build for sure

I was going to suggest that very same idea running the rear duals, i think that would look friggen awesome...

my progress has been stalled for a while do to lack of funds and getting other projects
i just picked up my camping setup an old 1973 HI low camper just the basics but it will work good for me and the family

i took some measurements and if i do run the rear with duals the outer sidewall of the outer dual will be 25 inches past the outside of the rear fender on each side
it should make for a nice step getting in and out of it

Make sure it's not going to be more than 8' 6" from outside to outside. Don't want to give the DOT a reason to pull you over.
