Well here we go on another build this one is a little different though. I have been shopping for a long time now for a new tow rig and I found this gem on Craigslist of course it needs an A$$ load of work and it needs to be ready for memorial weekend not to wheel but as the TR. I have a pile of parts and a bunch of stuff lined up so here we go!!!
Oh yea it's a 2002 with a 7.3 Diesel

Today I replaced the steering box because the shaft was bent/going to break in half and the truck would not turn all the way to the left. I'll get some pics of that tomorrow AM when I go back to work on this.
Heres the plan tomorrow I am replacing all four balljoints then The core support needs to be replaced the previous owner said someone backed into it with a skidsteer which later turned into a earthmover whats the differance right? After that it the frame will get straightened then it goes to paint!!

I'll be replacing that crapy cheap hood that was slapped on after the accident with a cowl hood and replaceing the head lights and grill. Then build a custom front bumper as soon as we figure out what Rumors did to the plasma cutter??? I have steel wheels that will also be painted black to match the truck

The box is junk And it would've cost more to fix it so I found this Take off 2008 box from Iowa to replace it.

Oh it's rotten rusty on both wheel wells and smashed on drivers side box floor looks like a wave pool. Milage doesn't scare me too much it has 195000 0n it. yes it was a good deal I'll have plenty into it when I'm done though as always

I did the ball joints this morning hey heres a tip for you guys With the newer style unit bearings on pretty much all new trucks they have a tight tolarence and get rusted into place. To replace an axle shaft you have to take them out but they can easly be destroyed when you hammer them out. If you leave the axle nut tight it will hold the bearing together while you hammer the unit out of the housing. learned this the hard way and most unit bearing assms are at least acouple hundred bucks. Same goes for IFS trucks leave the cv axle nut tight.

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/superdirty_photos/newsuperdirty005-1.jpg
Here's the leaky crappy looking cover and I pulled it off and fount some loose stuff causing the wonderful clunk when it goes into gear
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/superdirty_photos/newsuperdirty007-1.jpg
Somebody had rebuilt this rear end before and done a very poor job of it everything was sloppy and they used the old races. I took it over to My good friend Paul at Kennedy Transmission in fridley to get the new bearings installed.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/superdirty_photos/newsuperdirty008-1.jpg
we almost think it may have been in a flood because of all the gunk we cleaned out of the housing.

All done and it feels great no clunk into gear from excess freeplay. It was a challange finding bearings though our 2 hour road trip included Carquest,Napa,Ogaylies and two Ford dealerships. but we got'em!!

Now on to the next moronic no common sense thing I had to repair. The rear springs!! I'm unsure if add a leafs come with instructions I have bought them new and installed them about five times though. This Yahoo figured the best position in the leaf pack was the very top leaf?? Cause thats Fawkin Genius!!!!!

Damn skippy he used the steel banding to hold the wieght of the truck and it broke on one side and the other side he custom fabricated a one off band so it would work just right.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/superdirty_photos/NewSuperDirty022.jpg
I can't stand a truck with a saggy rear end it just looks dumb! Anyways The lowest part of the hitch was 20 3/4 inches before and it's at 22 3/4 now I gave it a good bounce test before I remeasured too.

Ok Over the weekend I got the new radiator in and the new core support. I found a rip in one of the intercooler hose connectors so I replaced that I wish I had a boost gauge so I could see if there was a difference I can only imagine that there is. That was the sorce of an oil leak also so I'm glad I got that done. I dropped the truck off at Dave's body shop and we took the box off last night. I forgot my camara but I'll tell ya it looked pretty sweet with no box!! We are still pushing for thursday as the completion date but I may have to take friday off to help finish it up so I have it for the weekend.
