running 1970s ford 390

i have a 1976 ford f150 custom that now has a 360 and for speed manual in it and i am looking to step up the motor to a 390 but at a reasonable price so if u have one or know someone that has one layin around let me know asap thanks

john, why don't you just put a cam, lifters, and maybe a set of pistons (and of course all new rings and seals and the like) bore it .030 over and be set. it'll be a lot easier and you'll be able to find more parts for the 360 to.

390's are a little hard to come by. I just put one in my 70's wheeling rig. the 360 that was in there still ran but would suck down 20-50 oil like crazy ( 2 hrs of wheeling equaled over 1 oil change) and had an ungodly rod knock.

It might be easier if the 360 is in good shape to just rebuild it and try to find 390 rods, pistons and crank (Ebay). The 360 and 390's are virtually identical engines , only major difference is the stroke.

I have a 390 in a 75 high boy thats still in the truck its got a four speed with a divorsed 205, No Diff's, No box, I bought it just for the Diff's, the engine has been gone through with very few miles on it, I was told. I didn't run and the gas smells real old since the truck has been sitting for about 4 or 5 years, it has a 2 barrel carb on it, I'll sell it all or part it out. PM me and make me an offer!
