sportsman coughed now wont run

I am looking for ideas on why my Sportsman 500 won't run. Was low throttle low load, low speed and it coughed now turns over like no compression. Does anyone know of common problems with these units and a good mechanic to fix it for me. Its got lots of miles on it so not sure if its worth fixing

my guese would have to be the the cam in bad

If it coughed through the intake I would make sure it didn't pop the carb off the intake boot. it could also be a carb issue. You didn't say what year it is but the cv syle carbs have a diaphram that could have a hole in it.Haven't heard of the cams going bad in them but it's possible

When the engine is turning over now is it making any noise (knocking or banging)? If so I would guess broken rod or wrist pin. If not pull the cover & see if the cam is turning, could be broken timing chain or gear?

was havin run issues in my 500 like that and at one of the dealers they told me the carb is a problem or the cam is bad
