This was taken from a local Audi club. Turns out there was a guy out east lurking in forums that would see a license plate and use that info to find out where you live. Then he would break in and steal your car when you were gone. Just remember to black out, distort or mask your plate numbers in some manner.

Apparently the guy was an active Rennlist & NASIOC.com member as well as several other boards. This guy is the reason why we blank out our driver's liscences when we post pics!

What gets me is the guy got bail on a personal recognizance bond--HE PAID $0 TO GET OUT OF JAIL!?!?!??????

Police seize car parts in alleged chop shopper's home

February 24, 2006

LAWRENCE, Mass. --Police say they have seized a Porsche and thousands of dollars in car parts at the home of a man charged with running a chop shop in New Hampshire.
The discovery Thursday came two days after Morgan Kipper, 27, of Billerica, was arrested in New Hampshire. He is being held on charges he stole a Ferrari and several Subarus. Police said they found the Ferrari in a storage unit in Merrimack, N.H..
Thursday, Massachusetts state troopers and Billerica police searched Kipper's home. They say they found a $60,000 Porsche that had been stolen in New Jersey and car parts worth about $35,000 they believe Kipper planned to sell on the black market.
In addition to the New Hampshire charges, Kipper now faces multiple counts of possession of stolen vehicles and possession of burglary tools.

It is a good thing to keep in mind. It most likely won't be a problem here so much but in other forums depending on what it is you have you are basically putting a shopping list out there for a would be theif and then telling them where you live. I mentioned this on an Chevy Avalanche forum that I also visit and some people were saying "If you are that worried about it you better cover your plates when driving around town." That isn't the point and illegal. The point is when you are driving around town most likely you don't list exactly what is in your car/truck and how much you paid for it. These are things that routinely come up in coversation in various forums. In the past I have seen a lot of posts from people that are new to forums in general and they don't understand this problem.
