View Full Version : June MOTM Nominations
Nova Bandit

PLEASE READ:
This is the nomination thread. I'm still working on getting this worked out, so lets try this:
RULES:
Anyone can nominate any MEMBER. Non-members are ineligible.
The mudder nominated must be seconded.
The mudder nominated must confirm that they would like to be MOTM. Nominating your self is obviously confirmation.
The mudder nominated must not have been MOTM before, unless significant changes have been made. (Final decisions about this will be up to me)
Once there are 6 nominees that meet all these criteria, nominations will be closed. If there are less than 6 by the end of the month, we will go with what we have.
The following for each nominee must be in this thread:
A picture of the nominee's mudder
A description of the nominee's mudder
Any questions?

Josh plan's 1979 jeep!!! Been broke and beat on enough!!!!! Keeps on goin........
I would like to nominate myself and my truck "Mad Max" for MOTM. Here is my truck's story.
A few weeks before Memorial weekend I was sitting without a mud truck. No way was I going to let that happen. The Suburban was not worth the work to get it ready & the 1 ton Ford wouldn't fit big enough tires & it is a diesel. Well I pulled the Suburban in the shop and had the body off & stripped down to nothing but a frame, springs, and a steering box. I spent the next couple weeks goofing off & gathering parts. Most of the stuff I had laying around the shop. A week before the big weekend I started building and fabricating. Here is what I ended up with.
Suburban frame, springs, brake booster, & steering box, motor out of an 85 Chevy van I scrapped a while back, trans & transfer case out of a blazer I scrapped few years ago, Dana 60 & 14 bolt with 4:56 gears out of a scrapped truck, two rear drive shafts mated, got rid of the rag joint & replaced it with a u-joint steering shaft from a van then welded it to a long pipe with a steering wheel on the other end in the roll cage that we built for a V8 go kart a few years ago, Headers cut up & welded back together pointing every direction(crazy), extended brake rod with pivot points to make it pull instead of push because pushing would cause rod to flex(not good for stopping lol), radiator from Suburban with dual electric fans from a Caravan laid on its side with the battery in front it and the customised fuel tank behind it, then built a dog house (to keep the mud out) out of bed liners & pole barn steel with a hinged roof for easy access for fueling & inspection, I also added an inline T on the top radiator hole for filling so that there would be no air in the system once full, turned the air inlet so it pulled clean air into the engine from the dog house, installed a low back race seat out of a Jeep I wrecked 10 years ago, out dated 5 point harness out of my drag racing car, old off road lights that have been laying around the shop, welded in angle iron that came from old hiway cable barriers for pull points, fabricated the shifter lever, brake pedal & gas pedal, and the 42" mud tires came off the back of an old deicer truck that came Minneapolis Airport. The wheels were an open center wheel so I had a machine shop cut & drill centers for my wheels then I welded them in. The machining of the wheel centers is the only thing I did not do myself. Somehow with a little help from friends I managed to fabricate & assemble this truck in a week. I didn't even get to test it before heading out. Once the last bolt was put in it, I pulled it out of the shop and hooked the tow bar up, then went mudding in Hertel for four days. The truck worked great!!! I could not believe it, I expected to have lots of problems. The radiator stayed clean & ran cool, went through everything. The worst thing that happened was a broken transfer case. 20 min & it was replaced. Well I hope you like my truck "Mad Max", It is a lot of spare parts & scrap metal that work well together. I will be doing lots of upgrades this summer since it turned out to be a keeper. If ya like it please post your thoughts.
