Well I thought I should post up my build being the new guy here, so let me start at the beginning, about 5 yrs ago I was building a 65 Ford Falcon Street Gasser Project

then one day I woke up and said " I Don't Want To Do This Anymore ! "
I figured what was the sense of building a vehicle that I had to store away all winter, so I stripped off all me hi-po parts , sold the car and bought a rotted out 78 Bronco for $800

after cutting up an old Chevy Corsica that was going to the boneyard I used as much sheet metal I could from that and made all my own patch panels for the Bronco and useing my 76 F250 as a parts truck this is what I ended up with in the end...I call it " BEAR METAL ! "

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa208/rsalter66/bronco161.jpg

after deciding I wanted to go 44's I knew I had to go bigger with the axles so I robbed them from my 76 F250 4x4 parts truck but hadn't got around to putting them in yet

well after flip floppin on which way I was going with this truck the project just kinda stalled out and went dormant for about a year. I was on the verge of selling it all off and saying screw it..
then one day a fellow mudder from my local site decided that he wanted to build a mud bog drag rail and discontinue his tube bodied aluminum skinned Faux Jeep, he couldn't find anyone to buy it so he gave it to me.....
when he dropped it off it was just the shell and frame, but sweet none the less !!!
and 20 times lighter then I could ever make the Bronco

the next day I shoved it out back and started mock up

I have since got it into the garage and picked up a built 460 for it, I'm not sure if I will keep it the color scheme it is or go black with skulls like my street truck is ?

Yea the bare metal look came along as a screw up, I was painting it black but then decided to go with this metalic gun metal silver I had , but I ran short, I was going to reshoot it a different color but after it dried it looked like bare metal to me, so I ran with it, check out the pinstrip and 76 front end,

also the bear metal was just a play on words I thought of at the fair one day when I had this decal made

this project has changed direction a few times, after I finish the buggy project I think I will turn this into my off road street rig
here is what I had going on under the hood, its a built up 351 W with a old McCulloch super charger

Yea I needed to make a hat for it real quick and thats what I came up with, I think it was a big juice can I used ? it was fast, cheap and it works just fine, it needs some refining but its still OK, my way of doing things is not for everyone, and thats fine with me, so I say
" FLAME ON !!!! :bat:" :D

so how does that vs57 blower really work?

Salt-Man
12-05-2009, 11:27 AM
you know what it is.....very good.. it works good, I haven't ran it much, but I had this set up in my 65 Falcon and it worked well, I just had an issue of pressurizeing the bowls, so I ran the vents out through the hat this time, I am building another carb for it
you know that blower is the original Paxton right..

yep 1940 to early 50 ish, does it really make that much of a difference? how much boost does your setup have?

Salt-Man
12-05-2009, 12:01 PM
I haven't had a gauge on it yet so I can only guess 8-12 lbs boost, its been modified to run full boost without the solenoid that used to operate it, my dad used to run it on his Chevy sb 400 in a 1980 Chevy luv he had, it used to run like a scalded dog, I set it up more for the fact that it used to be his and I just wanted to use it too, nostalgia I guess you could say
and the way I look at it the more air the better right ??? I was going to run a snorkel but I ran it inside instead

got some mock up done on my new budget buggy, I built a removeable drivers side door using chain link fence gate hinges I had laying around, moved things to the back like radiator, battery box and put in a bigger fuel tank, the previous owner only had a 1-2 gallon tank up front, he had it set up for strictly mud bog runs, I am building a more rounded wheeler/bogger/crawler, I picked up some seats for $50 that I made by selling a transfer case I didnt need and I am building a dash out of an old side step, this is all recylced stuff I had laying around, I am also making my old soft top fit so I have a barrier between me and the radiator etc, this is all just mock up I am going out today to do more but my camera broke so I don't know if I can post up any more good pictures, it still works but the display screen died so you cant see what your taking ?

well thats it for now, keep in mind this is all budget built, I have no parts money in it yet I have gotten everything by making it myself, recycling stuff I had laying around, or trading parts I didnt need for parts I did, of course I have gas money/electric/etc and a ton of time and firewood to keep me warm, my point is its a budget build all the way, I even traded tires I didnt need for the 44's on it and pulled the axles from a parts truck I had for my Bronco, one way or the other its recycled

for the camera try looking through the viewfinder the little hole you look through on old school cameras. Thats what I had to do when my old one broke

i like them all the jeep should move with a 460 in it. i want to know what it weighs when every thing is done.

Salt-Man
12-20-2009, 12:28 PM
ME TOO ! I was figuring on taking it over to my local recycling yard and asking them if I can weigh it on the truck scales, I'm guessing its going to be very light, when I had the body and frame delivered we took it off the trailer by hand, I picked it up and held it by one end while I had the other guy slide my car dollies under the springs, I also have a big tri axle equipment trailer that I am going to eventually set up to haul both the jeep and bronco on, but I think for now I will build a tow bar to pull it around on to help keep it cheap on gas to haul it, everything is pretty local to me, I would only need to trailer it for long hauls or bad carnage, I can always leave it at the mud pit and come back for the trailer if needed, after tax returns come in and we pay all our bills I am going to go check on a new set of 44's for the Bronco, I knew of a set of 4 for $800, just need to see if they are still there
